Cake in the post

This came for me today, in a box, in the post.

Oh and these too...

Cherry Cake, Chocolate Cake and Lemon Shortbread biscuits from Meg Rivers Artisan Bakery.

What a wonderful gift from some great friends of ours in Hong Kong. Such a fabulous idea. Find some amazing little bakery/shop in the country you need to send something to and get it sent directly there. Saves postage and taxes and is the best surprise!

Life is just a bowl full of Cherries

Though i would add...that have already been de pipped! It's a messy job making crumble!

Funnily enough it doesn't quite seem the right time of year with all this humidity to be making crumbles but they were. SO. GOOD.

We picked the cherries...loads of them from my friend's tree and personally i can think of nothing better than crumble so i made two...one on its own in all their glory and one with peaches. Man i love a good fresh cherry!

acanteen

We have this little place in Essex not too far from us that is awesome. It's simplicity is it's success but the food is to die for. It's one of those places that's perfect for the kids, or a brunch with friends or just for sitting quietly on your own with a paper. That's what i did this week and couldn't help taking 'less than perfect' iphone pics just to show you. We should have more places like this. Not chains but little independents, doing their thing and doing it really well. If you are ever in my neck of the woods. It's worth a trip.

I just love the story wall. So if you are on your own and there is no papers free, you can just read the story on the wall instead. Genius!
So i ate so quickly and forgot to take a photo of the actual food. I choose a combination salad which you can pick from a selection in front of you. Butternut squash, tuna and bean and a Greek little number. I could have eaten it for the next two weeks it was so delicious!

Cooking with Dash and Bella

Such great pictures and recipes. Such great inspiration for cooking with your children and not just a 'bit of mixing at the end when it's really all done' - proper cooking and preparing! I guess we should remember never to underestimate our children.
Though i refer to my favourite quote from this blog.
"KIDS ALWAYS WANT TO USE KNIVES.
GIVE THEM PLASTIC ONES WHEN THEY'RE TWO."

I baby led weaned both of my kids (no puree or spoon feeding) so they have both grown up basically eating what we eat from the get go but i love how cooking with them is such an amazing way to get your kids to explore food and get a real appreciation for everything culinary. Thanks for the inspiration Phyllis! Find Cooking with Dash and Bella here.
